13-3-2025 – Authorities are intensifying their pursuit of Hayden Davis, the mastermind behind the controversial $LIBRA meme coin scheme. The scandal, which has left investors reeling from a staggering $100 million loss, has prompted Argentine officials to seek an Interpol Red Notice for Davis’s arrest.
Legal heavyweight Gregorio Dalbón has petitioned the Argentine courts for an international arrest warrant, citing Davis’s substantial wealth and global connections as significant flight risks. The investigation, spearheaded by Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, has widened to encompass President Javier Milei’s inner circle, following the president’s promotion of $LIBRA on social media platform X.
The affair has taken a particularly dramatic turn with allegations swirling around President Milei’s sister, Karina Milei, who stands accused of accepting promotional payments from Davis – claims which the $LIBRA founder now vehemently denies after initially making the accusations himself. Davis’s company, Kelsier Ventures, has pointed fingers at President Milei’s sudden withdrawal of support as a catalyst for the project’s downfall.
In a rather peculiar twist, Davis broke his month-long silence to announce his intention to face the courts, whilst simultaneously engaging prominent legal minds Marcos Salt and Natalia Sergi. This announcement comes despite his earlier admissions of multiple international violations during an interview with Coffeezilla, which he later attempted to downplay during a livestream with Dave Portnoy.
The judicial response has been robust, with multiple legal actions initiated by various parties, including Claudio Lozano, congressman Itaí Hagman, and activist Juan Grabois. A particularly notable case involves Martín Romeo, a crypto analyst and former Milei supporter, whose attempt to be recognised as a plaintiff met with mixed reactions from different judges, potentially complicating the jurisdictional aspects of the case.
Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado’s acceptance of Romeo’s testimony stands in contrast to Judge María Servini’s uncertainty about whether to classify the case as fraud or a different financial crime, highlighting the complex legal challenges ahead in this unprecedented scandal that has shaken Argentina’s crypto and political landscapes.
